With a long history in Piedmont, Vietti has been making wine since 1919. Since then, the family has steadily grown the reputation ofNebbiolo. The most crucial revolution, however, came in the early 1960s when Cru designations were introduced to Barolo. At this time, Vietti was one of the first wineries to begin producing and bottling wines as single-vineyard or 'cru-designated' cuvees. Now in the modern age of Barolo, Vietti still maintains its position in the upper echelon of producers in Piedmont.

"Luca and Elena Currado (right) and longtime cellarmaster Eugenio Palumbo (left) presented a dazzling set ofwines at Vietti. Their 2018s are among the highlights of this very challenging year."

2019 Langhe Nebbiolo 'Perbacco' DOC
Usually $59 - Special Offer $51
The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco is a fabulous introduction to the vintage. Rich, sumptuous and layered, with terrific depth. There's real texture and depth here. Crushed raspberry, mint and blood orange. Over the last few years vineyard sources have been upgraded, and it shows, big time. Most of this fruit is from Barolo-designated vineyards.

2018Barolo 'Castiglione' DOCG
Usually $149- Special Offer $139
Vietti has the enormous advantage of 10 MGA sites at its disposition for blending purposes (and for making single-vineyard wines). This allows them to select the fruit they want to best express any one vintage. The 2018 Barolo Castiglione draws upon those 10 sites (including the recent additions of Mosconi, Ginestra, Bricco Ravera and Briccolina) to make what is ultimately its best-selling wine (with 35,000 bottles released). This classic rendition is tonic and clean with varietal tones of wild berry, rose and rusty nail.

2018Barolo 'Brunate' DOCG
Usually $489- Special Offer $459
With fruit from La Morra, the mid-weight 2018 Barolo Brunate shows a pretty softness and a delicate side with dried rose, lilac and blue flower. The wine completes malolactic fermentation in barrique and is later moved into large oak casks for aging. This dual oak treatment is part of Vietti's secret recipe for producing the silky tannins and fine texture you taste here. A production of 4,493 bottles, the wine is recognized by that distinctive aromatic finale of licorice and balsam herb.

2018Barolo 'Cerequio' DOCG
Usually $499- Special Offer $469
The 2018 Barolo Cerequio is a new wine in this range. Soaring aromatics and bright, red-toned fruit give the Cerequio its effusive personality. Nuanced and deep, with tremendous complexity and tons of character, the Cerequio is dazzling. This is everything a great Barolo from Cerequio should be. In other words: textbook. More over, it's one of the best wines of this very uneven vintage.

2018Barolo 'Lazzarito' DOCG
Usually $489- Special Offer $459
The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito represents Vietti's interpretation of Serralunga d'Alba, the village often associated with the most powerful wines in the appellation. The Lazzarito completes its secondary fermentation in barrique over three months and is then racked into large oak botti for an additional two years of aging. With some 8,000 bottles produced in this smaller vintage, the wine is very indicative of its geographic origins with tight black fruit, rusty nail, blood orange and earth. Compared to the others in this series, this wine delivers more lasting tannic power. A bit salty and savory now, it is well suited to long aging.

2018Barolo 'Ravera' DOCG
Usually $489- Special Offer $459
The 2018 Barolo Ravera is a wine of real depth and vertical structure. As always, the Ravera is a taut, nervy Barolo built on energy more than volume. Readers will have to be patient, as the Ravera is likely to require a number of years to be at its most expressive. Even in the early going, it is vibrant and full of life. Rose petal, chalk, blood orange and white pepper lend striking exotic top notes that are quite suggestive of what the future is going to bring. What a gorgeous Barolo this is.

2018Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' DOCG
Usually $499- Special Offer $469
This is one of my sweetheart wines from Castiglione Falletto. The Vietti 2018 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is beautifully etched and sharp with an especially delineated quality that is uncommon in this vintage. Fruit comes from a small 8,000-square-meter parcel, and like the other wines in this cru series from Vietti, it ages in oak casks for two years. The wine's texture is beautifully smooth and polished thanks to the carefully integrated tannins. Only 3,693 bottles were made.
