The wines of Mercurey and Santenay are becoming more and more sought after, and for good reason. While these two regions may not be as well-known as some of the other famous appellations in Burgundy, their wines are just as impressive in terms of quality and character.

"Nathalie and Jean-Claude Theulot took over the family estate in 1987. The patient replanting proved judicious, the wines gained in finesse and elegance. The ploughed vines, the absence of pesticides, the sorting, the whole harvest measured: everything is done to obtain pure, full and delicious juices. Their regularity made it possible to obtain the second star. The 2020s will appeal to enthusiasts. We have a special admiration for reds. As for the prices, they are still reasonable."

2020 Mercurey V.V
Extremely Limited $89
"Dark ruby, purple, scintillating. From three parcels with three different expositions, Vieilles Vignes is intelligently put together around ripe Pinot Noir, with freshness and noble, woody, raspberry and violet notes. On the palate, it’s close to a fruit coulis, very dense and juicy, with an overall irresistible and fresh finish. A well-priced bottle which could age for another 5 to 8 years for the patient ones. A wine we like for its density and balance."

2020 Mercurey 1er Cru 'Les Croichots'
Extremely Limited $105
"The expression Pinot Fin takes all its meaning with Croichots, a juice with such precision, freshness and perfect density that one must marvel over it. We appreciate this ensemble, flooded with fruits which can deal with its aging in wood, allowing a cellaring potential from 6 to 10 years. A remarkable bottle."

2020 Mercurey 1er Cru 'Les Combins'
Extremely Limited $109
"Les Combins marries density, depth and complexity. It’s a dark colour, intense in ripe fruit, circled by some wooded characters that suit the wine well, finishing on licorice and smoked notes. It is a serious Premier Cru which can age."

"David Moreau is no longer an emerging star in Burgundy, in the past few vintages he has become a popular fixture at his base in Santenay, the last village of the Cote d'Or. As Burgundy has become increasingly expensive and hard to procure, the world has widened it's search propelling estates like this quickly into the light...The wines from David Moreau are incredibly stylish and fine with glowing colours, seductive perfumes and silken flavours. None with a hair out of place, this producer may float just under the radar for now but is destined for big things."

2021 Bourgogne Rouge 'Montceau'
Usually $74 - Special Offer $69
"The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge Sur Montceau comes from west-facing slopes. It has a pretty bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry scents very pure. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and fine tannins with a slightly leafy finish. This is delightful."

2021 Santenay 'Cuvee S'
Usually $114 - Special Offer $107
"The 2021 Santenay Cuvée S, which suttered a lot of millerandage, is quite broody on the nose: dark berry fruit, traces of tobacco developing with time, more tertiary in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, more linear than previous vintages with a mineral-driven finish. Its ostensibly a no-trills but pleasurable Santenay."

2021 Santenay 1er Cru 'Beauregard' Rouge
Usually $159 - Special Offer $149
"The 2021 Santenay Beauregard ler Cru has a clean and crisp bouquet with dark berry fruit, the 5% whole bunches lending a slight pepperiness (though this is less whole bunches than other years). The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, lovely salinity and finesse here, not dissimilar to the Clos Rousseau but with a little more suppleness. Another lovely Santenay from David Moreau."

2021 Santenay 1er Cru 'Beaurepaire' Rouge
Usually $159 - Special Offer $149
"The 2021 Santenay Beaurepaire ler Cru has a clean and pure bouquet with precise and pure red cherry and strawberry fruit, wilted rose petal and light violet aromas percolating through with time. Ihe palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, a little toursquare in style. A small amount ot chalkiness towards the tinish is detailed, though never powerful. t will provide a lot of pleasurable early drinking."

2021 Santenay 1er Cru 'Clos des Mouches'
Usually $179 - Special Offer $165
"The 2021 Santenay Clos des Mouches ler Cru was hit hard by frost as it was pruned earlier than other cuvées. It offers red cherry and bergamot scents on the nose, though not quite as complex as either the Beauregard or Clos Rousseau. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of pepperiness on the entry, slightly more granular in texture, yet still well balanced with a trace of bay leaf and clove on the finish. Very fine."
