THEO DANCER
The Domaine Vincent Dancer is known and loved by fans of great white Burgundy. In recent years Vincent's son Theo has taken the reigns and has been making the wines completely since the 2020 vintage. From the 2021 vintage there will be no Australian release of wines from Vincent Dancer, however we are pleased to offer the wines from the incredible side project of Theo Dancer.
"Roc Breïa is an exciting new project in the Mâconnais led by Chassagne-Montrachet's Théo Dancer. There will only be two cuvées, a red and a white, both released as Vin de France to avoid treading on neighbors' toes. The first wines should be released later this year, and readers keen to remain on Burgundy's cutting edge will want to secure some!"

These wines are produced from fruit sourced from vineyards where Theo works hand in hand with the farmers to produce only perfectly healthy grapes from quasi organic methods.
In the cellar the minimalist approach continues resulting in pure, transparent wines. Native yeasts, no additions, natural malo and no battonage, fining, or flitering.
They are all labeled as Vin de France as they are produced outside their traditional appellation rules.

2021 Vin de France 'Botanica' Gamay
Usually $105 - Special Offer $95
"The single red this year is drawn from a friend’s vineyard in Lanciéon pink granitic soils near Fleurie. In fact, Lancié is bordered by Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent and Fleurie, but Dancer’s source lies closest to the latter. The fruit was entirely destemmed as 2021 was a cool year and Dancer did not want to make a wine that was too stemmy. The wine was aged in amphora and old cask.
The resulting wine is a superb example of Beaujolais: fine, pretty, red-fruited, long, complex and very easy to drink. Imagine a medium-bodied Fleurie, but with the complexity that amphora aging can bring."

2021 Vin de France 'Jurassique' Savagnin
Usually $219 - Special Offer $199
"Emphasising purity and terroir rather than flor-aging notes, this is Savagnin ouillé sourced from the fossil-rich marl soils of L’Étoile, in Jura’s southwest. The grapes were pressed and put directly into large oak barrels.
The resulting wine is superb. So fine, racy and delicious with lovely texture and a gorgeous, tangy close. Drive, length and finesse; this is a great Burgundy grower’s interpretation of the Jura."

2021 Vin de France 'Roc Breia' Pinot Noir
Usually $225 - Special Offer $205
"Vinesplanted between 1970 and 1985. This wine is vinified with some 50% whole bunch, followed by maturation in used 500-litre barrels. As for the white, Dancer makes a rigorous barrel selection, eliminating anything he doesn’t like from the final blend. Only 4,000 bottles were produced in 2021.
This is also a bright, juicy, pretty wine; full of redcurrant, raspberry and amaro-scented fruit, complexed by nettle and all kinds of spice. It’s a wonderfully elegant Pinot... This is already drinking well, yet it nonetheless benefits from plenty of air. Decant, serve, and fall in love."
Importer Notes
"The Roc Breïa 2021 Pinot Noir is just as charming as its white counterpart, bursting with aromas of red berries, plums, rose petals and orange rind. Medium-bodied, open and supple, with melting tannins and a lively, succulent profile, it will drink well on release."

2021 Vin de France 'Roc Breia' Chardonnay
Usually $225 - Special Offer $205
"The village of Bray lies in the north of the Mâcon. This cool area, which also includes Cruzille and Verzé, is one of the later ripening areas of the Mâconnais. The Roc Breïa vines face west and it’s a windy site, so there is little disease pressure. The Chardonnay is drawn from vines planted in the mid-1940s and mid-1970s.
In the cellar, winemaking is very simple. The Chardonnay is whole bunch pressed and the wine ferments in used 500-litre barrels. It’s bottled unfiltered and the only sulphur added is at bottling: a tiny 20 mg/L. Instead of taking the Mâcon-Bray appellation, Dancer has chosen to label the wine Vin de France, so he has no restrictions in terms of picking dates.
As for the wine itself, forget any stereotype you have in your mind about Mâcon; this is a juicy, punchy, white Burgundy, atypically fresh and racy for the region. It’s packed with citrus pith, crunchy nectarine fruit and bright acidity; and it sits at just 11% alcohol. A fascinating beginning to what will surely be an exciting future."
Importer Notes
"Tasted from multiple barrels shortly before bottling, Théo Dancer’s Roc Breïa 2021 Chardonnay offers up inviting aromas of orchard fruit and orange oil mingled with nuances of freshly baked bread, sweet stones, beeswax and nutmeg. Medium-bodied, fleshy and incisive, with tangy acids and a long, saline finish, it’s a terrific debut effort for this new project. Maturation was in used 500-liter barrels."
