Aromas of grapefruit pith, lemon zest and fresh ginger are all present in this fruit-focussed, single-vineyard wine. A wine of purity and finesse on the palate, there's also good extract and weight finishing pithy and long."

"From vines planted in 1982. Whole-bunched pressed to oak. Interestingly, the skins are frozen to be used in the Dry Red No 2. A bright green gold. Marzipan, cumquat marmalade, candied ginger and lemongrass can all be found in this round, generously flavoured yet well-balanced wine."

2020 Agincourt Cabernet Malbec

"75/25% cabernet/malbec. Mainly berry sorted and destemmed with a small amount of whole bunches. Matured in French Bordeaux-style barriques (15% new). A deep crimson red. Fragrant with darker red fruits, freshly hung meat and a lifted floral, herbal character from the malbec. An open, confident, bright and quite delicious Yarra cabernet."

2020 Underhill Shiraz

"From a 3.2ha block of shiraz, planted on the far western side at Yarra Yering in 1973. Half was fermented with 20% whole bunches in one 3,500L old oak cask, pressed and returned to this cask to mature for 12 months. The other half was matured in puncheons for 12 months. A very bright, medium crimson purple. A riotous amalgam of aromas including blueberries, potpourri, licorice root, Szechuan pepper and caraway seeds. Medium bodied and elegant, this has terrific viscosity and the tannins are oh, so powdery and fine. Gorgeous now and over the next 10 years or longer."

"35/35/12/7/6/5% touriga nacional/tinta cão/tinta amarela/tinta roriz/alvarelhão/sousão, co-fermented and initially foot trod in a traditional lagar. This one-of-a-kind wine is beautifully perfumed with mountain herbs, lavender, rosemary and briary red fruits. Beautifully balanced and proportioned on the palate and immediately appealing with its gentle texture, refreshing acidity and superfine tannin structure."

2020 Dry Red No 2 Shiraz Blend

"With 3% mataro and 1% viognier, the latter added as skins to some of the fermenters. Matured 15 months in French barriques (30% new). A deep crimson red. Concentrated with redcurrants, satsuma plums and blackberries along with fennel seed, olive tapenande, dark chocolate powder and a little fresh vanilla from the oak. A complete wine on the palate with its dark sour-cherry fruit, a slight savoury edge and firm, very fine tannins providing the structure for this to age well into the decade and beyond."

2020 Dry Red No 1 Cabernet Blend

"60/20/15/5% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/malbec/petit verdot. The cabernet fruit was destemmed and crushed, the other varieties kept as whole berries. Matured 15 months in French barrel (40% new). A deep, bright crimson-purple hue. Essence of great cabernet with its core of blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit, as well as a complex assortment of cardamon, coriander seed, black tea and gentle, fresh tobacco leaf. Just as good on the detailed, layered and persistent palate. There is a coolness and restraint to the cassis fruit that builds, culminating in a long, chalky tannin finish. A complete and beautiful wine."

"A small bottling of the original pinot noir vines planted in 1969. Fully destemmed with some stalks added back to the 600kg fermenters. Matured 10 months in French oak, 40% new. A medium-deep crimson purple. Focussed with strawberries and other red fruits, along with a little spice from the well-handled oak. On the palate this has real power and density, with a core of sweet, darker fruits and savoury, ripe and long tannins. A serious wine built for the long haul."

2020 Carrodus Cabernet Sauvignon

"From the 1969-planted cabernet from the southwest corner of the No 1 block. Destemmed and crushed into the 600kg Yarra Yering fermenters, with some extended maceration before maturation in French barrels for 15 months (30% new). A deep crimson purple. An incredibly complex nose with its core of fresh blackcurrant and cherry as well as cassis, graphite, bay leaf, black olive and cedar from the perfectly handled and already integrated oak. Darkly fruited on the palate, this iron fist in a velvet glove textured and structured wine is worth every cent of its lofty asking price."
