Time flies, and it seems incredible that Crawford River celebrated its 45th birthday in 2020. Once a tiny outpost in a little-known wine region, Crawford River is now a foremost producer of riesling (and other excellent wines), originally thanks to the unremitting attention to detail and skill of its founder and winemaker, John Thomson.

This is flying. Beautiful wine marrying gentle maturity in characters of lightly toasted white bread, honeysuckle, wild honey, candle wax and yet impossible freshness of Granny Smith apple and lime. The palate is bright albeit gently slippery with age, more of the secondary characters of the bouquet and still holding a compact, racy form. The finish is almost sparkling with pink grapefruit and gin-like botanical zestiness. Stellar."

It’s magnificent. A schooling in riesling beauty, tension, texture, vitality, layers of fruit, spice, yeasty elements and a persistence that can’t be beat. If anything, a little more understated than other Reserve rieslings from CR, not quite delicate but playing to a more gentle strength. Fragrant, with a fog of fruit and spice, flavoursome but in a sheath of lightly puckering texture. Stains the palate gently too. I like that the wine has character, not set to a standard, loaded with character. Vibrant through that great trail of the finish. Stellar stuff.."

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon

"Lots of love and patience to make this wine.
Succulent yet deep red. Supple tannins, cool minty refrain in dark cherry, cassis, lavender, violets and liquorice going on. Smooth ride, so so satiny, lush yet controlled and finds its groove so easily. Such a delight to drink, complex fruit characters doing fruit flavours, spice, judicious seasoning, tannin, acid all so well. Really impressive and in 2018 a little extra bandwidth and generosity perhaps. Oh so delightful. Cellar long or drink now. Superb."
