Warramate

Warramate wine are all crafted byYarra Yering’s Winemaker, Sarah Crowe in the same manner as the Yarra Yering wines, but are released at about a third of the price. We tasted the wines below earlier this week and were blown away by the quality.

An absolute must buy for Yarra Yering fans.
The Warramate Vineyard was established in 1970 on a spectacular north-facing slope overlooking the central Yarra Valley and it produces wines of distinction, depth and intensity from its hand-tended and non-irrigated vines.

Reflective of a cooler year, this Chardonnay displays oyster shell minerality with a grapefruit freshness, then some more weighty melon and pawpaw fruits. Bright, palate tightening grapefruit acidity drives the long palate with texture from barrel fermentation. Malolactic fermentation filling out the middle palate bringing weight. A pithy texture lends weight and long lingering finish deliver a refreshing wine.

Producer Notes
A highly perfumed aroma of violets, the fruit profile of vibrant blue and black cherries, Campari lift with a hint of stalk heightening the spice element sitting in the medium weighted silky characteristic of Pinot noir. A very refreshing elegant fruit palate the bunch use bringing some stalk tannin andstructure, only older oak was used for maturation to highlight the fruit purity.

Producer Notes

"From a 2ha plot planted in 2000. Some whole bunches. Matured in French hogsheads (20% new). A very bright crimson red. Just bottled. A very primary bouquet redolent of freshly picked cherries, ripe raspberries and a little bitter blood orange. Punchy and with loads of flavour and ripe tannins. This will merit an even better score, I'd imagine, in six to 12 months. Great value from the team at Yarra Yering."

Violets and plummy fruits make for a lively, generously fruitful wine entwined with a pink peppercorn spice element. An elegant style reflecting its cool climate origins, it’s medium bodied weight, a cool undercurrent of blue fruits, the succulent and richly layered palate is supported by some stalk tannin firmness.

Producer Notes

Black mulberries and blueberry fruits with some bramble lift, a medium-bodied classic claret style. The succulent jubey fruit layered palate with some aniseed spice complexity and lovely chalky tannins. There is a brightness to the acid energy that underscores a wine of fruit purity and finesse.
