The Vietti family have a long history in Piedmont making wine since 1919, steadily growing the reputation of Nebbiolo. In 1963, the first official Italian system of classification of wines was introduced and Vietti was one of the first wineries in Barolo to begin producing and bottling wines as single-vineyard or 'cru-designated' cuvees. Now in the modern age of Barolo, Vietti still maintains its position in the upper echelon of producers in Piedmont.

"The writing was on the wall last year, so to speak, when Vietti presented a stellar set of 2018 Barolos made even more notable by how challenging that vintage was. Then this fall I tasted the 2019s, which picked up where the 2018s left off. But what truly won Vietti this very well-deserved award is the showing of their everyday wines, the Barberas and Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco in particular."

2019 Barbaresco 'Masseria' DOCG
Usually $319 - Special Offer $299
"The 2019 Barbaresco Masseria Roncaglie is the best Barbaresco I have ever tasted from Vietti. Bright, and full of energy, the 2019 is stunning from the very first taste, and it was poured after all the Barolos in the range. Crushed flowers, sweet redberry fruit, cinnamon, mint and orange peel all grace this exquisite, mind-blowing Barbaresco. The 2019 is pure and total finesse. I am not sure how much longer that will last. The 2019 is outrageously beautiful. Don't miss it!"

2019 Barolo 'Lazzarito' DOCG
Usually $519 - Special Offer $499
"With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, the Vietti 2019 Barolo Lazzarito is a historic cornerstone wine of this mighty portfolio. It is also one of the Vietti Barolos that consistently delivers extreme quality and pleasure with each new release. Like the other wines presented here, winemaking is straightforward, with submerged cap fermentations lasting 30 to 35 days (although those times were reduced in 2019 because this vintage was not suited to long maceration times). Serralunga d'Alba always delivers power and richness. There are aromas of dried tobacco leaf, perfumed tea, crushed rose and iron ore. The bouquet is extremely expressive."

2019 Barolo 'Monvigliero' DOCG
Usually $519 - Special Offer $499
"The 2019 Barolo Monvigliero is stunning. What a wine. Rich, heady and explosive, the 2019 is a gorgeous, spherical Barolo that dazzles right out of the gate. Aromatically broad and expansive, the 2019 fleshes out beautifully in the glass. Bright red-toned fruit, orange zest, mint, spice and bright saline notes saturate the palate on the back end. The 2019 is a total stunner. It comes across as a bit rustic compared to the 2018, but the final verdict on that won't be evident for at least a number of years."

2019 Barolo 'Brunate' DOCG
Usually $519 - Special Offer $499
"The 2019 Barolo Brunate is a powerhouse. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender, mocha, gravel and scorched earth all build as this virile, potent Barolo struts its stuff. The Brunate is another super-impressive wine in this range. To be perfectly honest, the Brunate has never been one of my favourite wines here, but the 2019 is undeniably great. Perhaps the combination of parcels Vietti has today explains the multi-dimensional vibrancy that comes through. This is simply magnificent."

2019 Barolo 'Cerequio' DOCG
Usually $519 - Special Offer $499
"The 2019 Barolo Cerequio is a worthy follow-up to the stellar 2018. Aromatic and deeply pitched, the 2019 races across the palate with remarkable depth and intensity. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, mint and cinnamon all open in the glass, but it is the wine's silkiness and suppleness that impresses most. A kick of acids and tannins puts an exclamation point on the finish. This is a gorgeous Cerequio that takes all the finesse this site offers, and then turns up the volume. What a wine."

2019 Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' DOCG
Usually $519 - Special Offer $499
"The 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is all class. Deep and sensual, the 2019 once again shows how magical this site is. A Barolo with no hard edges and tons of sensuality, the 2019 is positively stellar. Silky tannins wrap around a core of bright red-toned fruit. The purity of the flavors is remarkable. Sweet floral and spice notes lend tons of lift as the Rocche gains in dimension with time in the glass. Resonant, expansive and sensual to the core, the Rocche will thrill Vietti fans."

2019 Barolo 'Ravera' DOCG
Usually $519 - Special Offer $499
"The 2019 Barolo Ravera is the most intensely mineral and saline of the Barolos. Crushed rocks, white pepper, flowers, orange zest, red berry fruit and bright acids all run through this finely sculpted, chiseled Barolo. Readers who enjoy Barolos of energy and tension will adore the Ravera. I have always had a soft spot for this Barolo. The 2019 is another magnificent dimension of Vietti's dark horse, a wine that over the last 10-12 years has routinely challenged for the crown here, and often won!"

2015 Barolo Riserva DOCG
Usually $319 - Special Offer $299
"Here's an exciting new submission from Vietti that takes us to a whole other level (and evolutionary timeframe). A very late release that is held back at the winery, the 2015 Barolo Riserva sources its fruit solely from Castiglione Falletto. In fact, it represents a special section of the best sites that go into the Barolo Castiglione. Some of that fruit was so impressive, I am told, that the decision was made to age it longer (with up to 30 months in large oak casks) and give it a Riserva designation. Specifically, the grapes come primarily from Scarrone and Bric del Fiasc. Production is 5,000 bottles. The wine reveals gorgeous elegance, with evolved fruit flavours and melting tannins. The beauty is that you can drink this wine the same day you buy it."
