Since David showed us the wines from Sordo a few years back, we've been in love with this family-owned producer nestled in the hills of Piedmont. The number of unique single cru wines that Sordo makes is incredible, a true feat of winemaking. The wines all show the incredibly distinct personality of each site with precision and elegance and with the 2019 vintage being hailed as one of the greats in recent times, these are a must-have for any lover of Nebbiolo.

"Very structured, very primary and red fruited, touches of game meat and bloodiness, some undergrowth notes too, but geez, this goes deep on cherry/raspberry fruitiness foremost. The palate is compact, tightly packed and somewhat silky in the same sip. A distinct youthfulness on hand. Strength in tannin, despite the flirty, lighter and red fruited feel."

2019 Barolo 'Gabutti' DOCG

"Gosh, the tannin. Black tea and bergamot very strong in this wine. Scents of both, if not a touch of smoked peat, sea spray, cranberry and dried cherry. The palate stains everything in its path and dries things to mouth-watering succulence too. A saline minerality runs veins through the wine. Bergamot plus plus in taste too. So much architecture here. Needs a lot of time.."

2019 Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' DOCG

"Quite open weave for RdC vineyard. Almost a juiciness but for the web of lacy tannin and skeletal feel to structure. Rose hip tea, cranberry, alpine herbs, tobacco and clove in the mix here. Some brick dust elements in the savoury sense and green almond cruising through. Tight and almost skittish in textural feel. Very understated. This is a long termer, and seriously good."

"There’s a sense of freshness and precision through all the 2019 Sordo wines. Quite a theme.
Quite a pretty wine here, despite the pedigree and potential. Almost a juiciness to the wine with the web of ultra fine al dente tannin. It has some potency to flavour, dark cherry-led with turned earth, hazelnut, dried cranberry, cola and fennel. It has a kind of mouth perfume, floral, dried and fresh, sour cherry, truffle; it elevates on a sense of freshness and drives long, long, long. Architectural expression and set for a serious future."
