2020 Nuits-St.-Georges
Dense purple black, plenty of energy here but not much detail yet. Very powerful but also very poised and the finish is clean and well extended, ripe dark fruit, perfect acid balance, middleweight plus. Impeccable
91-94 Points. Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Les Tuvilains’
Dense purple with a lighter rim. This is not over the top as some Tuvilains have been in the hot years. Balanced, with low-key dark fruit, slightly crumbly tannins behind, good acidity, fair length.
90-93 Points. Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
The 2020 Beaune Les Tuvilains 1er Cru, from 50-year old vines, has a well defined bouquet with rose petals infusing the vivid red fruit, hints of tangerine emerging with time. The palate is silky smooth, almost Vosne-Romanée-like in texture with a sweet and pure finish that is very seductive. This should present 10 to 20-years of drinking pleasure.
91-93 Points. Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021
2020 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos de la Mignotte’
Deep dark purple. This is one of Maxime’s 2020s which shows a noble balance right from the start. The texture is perfect so is the fruit-acid balance, supported by very fine-grained tannins. There is an effortless density in this wine. 92-95 Points. (5 Star Wine) Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Vosne-Romanee
A lively full purple colour with scarlet rim. This sample has a slightly oxidative nose which is unlikely to be representative of the wine. Fine, poised, classy, with fine-grained tannins, plenty of them but they are fine enough, with a medium to long finish.
90-92 Points. Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village has a well-defined bouquet with dark cherries, raspberry coulis and rose petal scents, forward yet focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good acidity, a little savory towards the finish with fine length.
89-91 Points. Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021
2020Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru ‘Aux Boudots’
The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru has a very lovely bouquet with well-defined red fruit, crushed stone, touches of dried red petals. The palate is medium-bodied with a citrus-fresh opening, a Boudots surfeit with energy, quite conservative and linear on the finish though. Great potential.
92-94 Points. Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021
Black colour with purple rim. As most of the wines the bouquet is not yet really speaking but this makes a wonderful sensual mouthful of dark fruit with also an excellent structure of fine-grained tannins, and just a light point of acidity. Picked on the perfect day, I suspect.
94-97 Points. (5 Star Wine) Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru ‘Les Chaumes’
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru is very expressive on the nose with raspberry, briary and a touch of crushed stone, hints of orange pith. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite strict towards the finish but with commendable length. Fine, but this will need 4-6 years in bottle.
91-93 points. Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021
Domaine and negociant fruit together so this will be under the negociant label. Maxime thinks the wine has been improved by his purchase of grapes from very old vines of pinot tordu. Beautiful nose, this is high class Vosne from an often overlooked vineyard. This wine brings us back to the effortless level, with good acidity at the back, plenty of fruit weight and a very persistent finish. The aromatics remain delicious, light on their feet.
93-96 Points. (5 Star Wine) Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru ‘Les Beaux Monts’
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a distinctly marine-driven bouquet with shucked oyster shells permeating the black cherry and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, poise and mineralité in abundance. Maxime Chuerlin rates this above his Echézeaux. I am not going to argue.
95-97 points. Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021
Dark black centre with purple rim. High class nose suggesting intensity with some hillside freshness. Then the volume builds wonderfully, such energy, everything as and where it should be. Plenty of oak but it can easily take it.
94-97 Points. (5 Star Wine) Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Grand Echezeaux Grand Cru
The 2020 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet with wild strawberry, cassis, wilted violets and touches of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, extremely pure and velvety. There is enormous energy and animation in this Grand Cru, sappiness that draws you back in for another sip. This is the best Grands Echézeaux that Maume Chuerlin has crafted.
96-98 Points. Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021
The wine is poured and displays a spectacularly dense imperial purple. The first nose suggests inky depths in a good way, there is so much more to come. And here it does come on the palate, a veritable wealth of noble dark fruit with a lifted finish, excellent acidity and more tannins than many of the wines. The volume of fruit deserves this structure, as it does the epithet Grands.

2020 Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits Rouge
Dark purple, very ripe dark raspberry and plummy nose, some damsons, this has reached 13% so Maxime only just got there on time, if not a day late. There is power and energy and in fact the wine is really very attractive: Hautes Côtes de Nuits trying to be mainline and making it. Very pretty long finish

2020 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 'Monts Luisants'
Cheurlin noted that the malo had just finished. Surprisingly for a wine that had recently completed its malo, the nose is very fresh and quite pretty with its aromas of plum, black cherry and discreet earth nuances. The delicious, vibrant and nicely detailed middle weight flavors exude evident salinity on the short and lean finish that is full of gas. I suspect that once this has a few more months in barrel for the gas to dissipate, the balance and harmony will improve accordingly, and my projected range reflects that optimism.
89-91 Points. Allen Meadows, Burghound, November 2021
2020 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Vaucrains'
Very intense purple. He thinks he may have picked just a bit too early. The bouquet is a little bit backward but shows promise. This Vaucrains builds really powerfully in the mouth, more in red fruit, a little acidity, excellent length. Picked just before hitting the sweet spot but I still like it very much. Crystalline crunchy red fruit finish.
93-95 Points. Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru ‘Les Feusselottes’
A sizeable cuvée for Maxime. Excellent dark purple colour and deep fruit. There is a sweetness of dark fruit on the palate with just the lightest of torrefied notes behind. The tannins are fine, the acidity less evident, perhaps this could just do with a touch more energy in the middle.
90-93 Points. Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy, November 2021
2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
From two neighbouring plots in Petit Maupertuis. Dark purple all the way through. Powerful, brooding but balanced. I was expecting the usual ungiving Clos Vougeot style but then the fruit explodes on the mouth, this is really singing. Just the right tannins, light acidity, ripe but perfectly judged. An excellent Clos Vougeot, with character!
