EXCEPTIONAL GRANGE VERTICAL
1951-2020

We are delighted to offer an extraordinarily rare vertical (1951 to 2020) of Australia’s most collectible wine, Penfolds Grange.

This is an exceptional collection, highlighted by a simply superb bottle of 1951, signed by Max Schubert (the creator of Penfolds Grange), which was assessed, passed and recorked at the Penfolds Recorking Clinic in 2010, making it one of the select bottles in the country to attain this distinction.

The set also contains some extra rare gems, such as the 1953 Grange Cabernet and a half bottle of the 1953 Grange Hermitage – both produced in absolutely miniscule quantities and both assessed, passed and recorked at the Penfolds Recorking Clinic.

Truly exceptional.

Rather than either asking a fixed price or putting the set to auction, we are asking for expressions of interest in this piece of Australian vinous history.

Expressions of interest:

- must be submitted by 5pm AEST on Friday 16 May 2025;
- must specify a firm total offer price in AUD for the entire collection as per the attached catalogue (note, there are no additional charges such as buyer’s premium – the offer price is the total price that will be paid); and
- be condition free.

As this is a sale from a private vendor, any final sale will be subject to our usual AUCTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

The price expectations of the seller are very reasonable, although expressions of interest should consider the sale prices of Penfolds Grange verticals over the past decade, which vary broadly between A$400,000 and A$700,000, typically dependent on the condition of the rarest wines (1951-1954, 1957, 1958).

At the conclusion of the Expression of Interest period, the highest unconditional offer will be submitted to the vendor, but in the event that this offer is not acceptable to the vendor, MW Wines reserves the right to negotiate with one or more parties following this.

Detailed photos of each bottle in the collection can be found in the attached catalogue. Inspections can be arranged strictly by appointment only and if any additional photos are required, please request these by responding to this email.

Don’t miss this very rare chance to acquire this immensely collectible piece of Australia’s vinous history!
