We are delighted to announce the arrival of Brezza 2021 Barolo – arguably one of the best value offers we’ve had this year.
We always used to describe Brezza as being our most ‘traditional’ producer. Though the whole ‘traditionalist’ concept in modern day Barolo is a little anachronistic, basically in this instance it just meant that Enzo is attached to historical practices of longer, gentle macerations and large neutral Slavonian Oak for aging. He is however not opposed to modern know how in the form of gravity fed cellars, temperature control, and meticulous tannin management.
He is and always will be a grower first. He believes that 95% of the work goes into growing the fruit and he is an unsung hero as far as biodynamic viticulture goes in the area. His fruit quality is benchmark, even in difficult vintages BUT in a vintage like 21 where nature was kinder than it has been the result is exceptional, and the resultant wines are a delight to behold.
Brezza stylistically offer sweet but transparent fruit, bright acidity, and soft approachable tannins that are reflective of the sites that Enzo works with, and of course his light-handed work in the cellar. Although more austerity and tannin can be seen in young Sarmassa, Barolo Classico and Cannubi have immediate appeal, with all three built for the ages, particularly in 2021.
