"Arguably the lightest in color of the reds this year, although only by a whisker, the 2021 Mataro leads with dried rose petals, pomegranate seeds, red brick dust, copper/iodine inflections and a spray of fresh blood. Crushed pink peppercorns, a hint of musk stick and lashings of dried exotic spices. In the mouth (which is experiencing anticipatory watering), the wine is svelte and lightweight yet persistent and long. It speaks of all the things the aromas have suggested and is shaped by savory tannins that are both ductile and chewy. This wine has integrity and shape and flows/slinks across the palate. It is very fine, very long, sapid and structural. Sensational, in a word."
