The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots has wonderful purity on the nose, a serious step up from the village cru this year—bright red cherry and bergamot scents pouring from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, bright red cherry and wild strawberry fruit and impressive tension. This is like a coiled spring. Matured in two year oak, it manages to attain a sensuality that is already very engaging. Very fine.
