"The 2011 Forge really reminds me of a young Clos de Tart. It has the ‘La Forge’ nose of pretty, grenadine, spicy fruit, but the palate is much denser and riper with powdery structure. These are normally features that you would see in a young Clos de Tart. Cellarmaster Jean Louis likened this Forge to the 2008 although I recall this latter wine (a blinder by the way) being much more open when it was young. Perhaps with time the ‘11 will begin to look similar. This gives you further evidence that the Forge is not really a ‘second wine’ but rather a different wine. It’s intense and sweetly fruity with subtle oak, plenty of perfume, sinewy tannins and a fine, refreshing, lingering finale. A grand cru in every sense except what’s on the label." - MW Wines
