2013 Voyager Estate Benchmark tasting. Wines tasted briefly, in appropriate glasses, and for me double blind so as not to induce the usual single blind ‘ I think this wine is this guessing game’ that can happen at such tastings. A snapshot, not a leisurely assessment, though a considered one. Six wines per bracket served in appropriate glasses, picked for quality and interest. No stacking the deck to make the Voyager wines look good.
Pencil, bay leaf, blackcurrant, cocoa, red currant and cherry, fresh acidity, long fine grained tannin and an equally long finish. Slight tinniness to the acidity, but a lovely wine with plenty of time on its side. Almost a honeycomb character on the finish.
