The Diebolt family has
lived in Cramant since the end of the 19th century, and the
Vallois family has been cultivating vines in Cuis since the
15th Century. Jacques Diebolt started working with his
grandfather and took control of the House in 1959. He subsequently
married Nadia Vallois bringing additional vineyards and the
commencement of the name Diebolt-Vallois. It was not until
1978 that the estate underwent a major change with the
extension of the estate and the construction first of all
of cellars, and then a winery.
Jacques Diebolt is one of the finest winemakers in the Côte
des Blancs, where the house he founded has 35 acres of
vines in legendary terroirs (Cramant, Mesnil sur Oger,
etc.). Today, Jacques’ and Nadia’s children, Isabelle and
Arnaud, are taking an increasingly active role in the
business, although always overseen by the watchful eye of
Jacques.
The Champagnes of Diebolt-Vallois grace the wine lists of
many of the world’s great restaurants and are widely
considered to be amongst the best, most age-worthy
Champagnes produced. We are truly blessed that they remain
so affordable, particularly Prestige, given how much care,
attention, old vines and reserve material goes into this
cuvee. They are a mainstay in our cellars.
