"This wine comes from a unique vineyard, Asbroek ‘Ancient’ with vines planted around 1864. A first release of this wine. Callum Powell setting a cracking pace with his releases under this personal label.
A mix of mulberry, dark cherry, cocoa and choc-plum in the perfume, though you’ll also find faint mint, char, smoked paprika and some Aussie bush lift. The palate works a similar trajectory, unashamedly bold yet evens out with chunky loops of charry, earthy tannin. It feels very deep set, incredibly potent, gnarly, woody, earthy and elemental. The persistence is something else. It feels stellar in its kaleidoscopic reach of shiraz’s warm hearted potential.."
