"Penfolds Grange Shiraz 1988 was made using a blend of 94 percent shiraz and 6 percent cabernet sauvignon. Grapes for this vintage of Grange were grown in the Barossa Valley, Padthaway, and McLaren Vale regions. It was a good summer in South Australia. Described by Penfolds as “ideal”.
Sweet hit of fruity blackberry through the palate, bolstered by mint and blackcurrant. Regulation fruit flavour, prettied up by rose-like nuances. I very much like the tannin structure of this wine. It gives it a sense of aristocracy. Apart from the gentle run of mint, I reckon this is a very fine Grange. Elegant, lingering, structured and controlled. 94 Points/Drink 1998-2016" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
