Éric Rodez, along with his
wife Martine, are the 8th generation of a family of
Champagne makers, with origins dating back to 1757. The
Rodez couple have established a 6.12 hectare domaine
located in the superb Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. Éric
himself was even the Mayor of the city from 2008 to 2014!
The terroir is subdivided into 35 different parcels with
62% of Pinot Noir and 38% of Chardonnay, and Eric produces
Champagnes in three different categories, each with a
different philosophy:
Les Vins d’Auteur – the author’s wines, where Eric
practices the Champenoise tradition of blending using a
base vintage and reserve wines to preserve a consistency of
quality and style from vintage to vintage.
Les Vins de Parcelle – one parcel, one grape variety, one
vintage – a pure expression of the unique, individual
terroirs of Ambonnay, relying solely on the vines to
express the terroir
Les Vins de Terroir – one grape variety, one vintage, but
5-7 parcels to best capture the essence of Ambonnay
After a long time working for Champagne Krug as an
oenologist, Éric undoubtably acquired an experience and
outstanding know-how in blending, that gives a special
depth to his Champagnes, along with a strong commitment to
farm organically.
The 9th generation of the Rodez family – Mickaël and
Aurélie have recently joined the estate, learning from
their parents about this strong heritage. True authors in
Champagne.
