Penfolds Grange Shiraz (Hermitage) 1970 was made using a blend of 90 percent shiraz and 10 percent cabernet sauvignon. Grapes were grown in the Barossa Valley (Kalimna Vineyard and other) and on the Magill Estate vineyard in Adelaide. It was a good, warm summer and vintage in the Barossa Valley and Adelaide wine regions. This release of Penfolds Grange won the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.
